Harriman Appoints New CEO and COO

Auburn, ME – Architecture, engineering and planning firm Harriman appoints new CEO and COO, effective June 1, 2020.

A new generation of leaders is poised to open an exciting chapter at Harriman. The integrated design services firm, which celebrates its 150th year in 2020, announced that the Board of Directors have appointed Mark Lee, AIA, LEED AP, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Jim Fortin, P.E., SECB, as Chief Operations Officer (COO). Together, they will be responsible for leading the firm’s architecture, engineering, and planning practice. These new appointments will coincide with the retirement of current firm President and CEO, Clif Greim. The changes will take effect June 1, 2020.

By creating distinct areas of focus, this dynamic new leadership team will enable Harriman to respond more effectively to evolving client needs. As CEO, Lee will drive strategy, vision and business development. In the role of COO, Fortin will focus on internal organization, client service and project delivery. They will also remain deeply focused in supporting their current positions in their respective design studios.

“I am thrilled to see Mark and Jim take the helm at Harriman,” said Clif Greim, President of Harriman. “They are respected leaders in the architectural and engineering professions who exemplify Harriman’s dedication to creating value for our clients. Their depth of experience and passion for design excellence will strengthen our practice across our offices.”

Since joining Harriman in 1996, Lee has been instrumental in helping the firm to develop new centers of expertise, focusing attention on sustainability and cultivating a culture of openness. His background as a structural engineer and architect uniquely positions him to enhance and leverage Harriman’s integrated services approach. Lee holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Architectural Engineering and Civil Engineering from Drexel University and a Master of Architecture degree from Boston Architectural College. “It is an honor to follow such an inspirational and thoughtful leader as Clif,” said Lee. “He has elevated the firm to a new level during his time leading the firm. I plan to build on this momentum to further elevate the thrust and vision of our design practice.”

Fortin’s career at Harriman spans nearly 15 years. He currently leads Harriman’s structural and civil engineering studio. His expertise encompasses major new construction and renovation projects in the medical, educational, commercial, industrial, housing and retail markets. Jim’s unyielding commitment to using technology and innovative delivery methods will be vital assets as the firm continues to grow and diversify its portfolio. “Harriman’s legacy of integrated services goes back 150 years. I am excited to work collaboratively with Mark to build on that legacy and amplify its impact for the clients and the communities in which we work,” said Fortin. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
