Fire
protection for the flight line and all facilities at the Maine Air National
Guard base is provided from this two-story station located next to the taxiway.
The station has seven bays for emergency vehicles on the first floor, and
living quarters for fire fighters on duty on the second. A specialized ventilation
system keeps fumes from vehicles or aircraft from migrating into the living
spaces.
A repair shop for fire apparatus is conveniently located on the first floor
near the equipment bays. Training rooms are also on the second floor, along
with administrative offices for supervisory personnel. A communications
center in operation 24 hours a day has a clear view of the flight line.
Received a Notable Design Award in the November 2003 issue of Fire Chief
Magazine special section Station Style: Fire Station Design and Construction.
