Harriman Associates Designs Maine's First In Vitro Clinic

Harriman Associates recently designed Maine’s first state-of-the-art in vitro fertilization clinic, the Maine Center for Reproductive Health (MCRH) in South Portland.

The nearly 7,000-sf facility, constructed within an existing office building, includes clinical exam rooms, an ultrasound room, laboratory spaces, procedures room, three-bed recovery suite, and support and physician spaces. Harriman Associates worked with Ronald S. Carson, Ph.D., a laboratory consultant based in Australia with expertise in reproductive science to design and specify equipment for the laboratory spaces. Harriman Associates also designed sophisticated HVAC, electrical, life safety, and fire protection systems that are required to protect frozen embryos and laboratory equipment. The fast-track construction schedule allowed the facility to be completed in just over 4 months.

The MCRH, which is affiliated with Maine Medical Center, provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for both women and men with a wide array of disorders of the reproductive system. In addition to fertility, these disorders include polycystic ovarian syndrome, menstrual disorders, menopause, male hypogonadism, and others. MCRH has also expanded its reproductive endocrinology and fertility services to include Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) services. ART includes advanced fertility technologies, chiefly in vitro fertilization (IVF). MCRH is the first full-service ART center established in the state of Maine.
