11, 2003 Flexibility, efficiency mark design of new high school Architects at Harriman Associates have completed conceptual drawings for a new 2,000-student high schol in Exeter, New Hampshire. The new school will serve the towns of Brentwood, East Kingston, Kensington, Newfields and Stratham in addition to Exeter. Harriman Associates is providing full architecture design services as well as mechanical, structural and electrical engineering for the project from offices in Auburn and Portland, Maine. Appledore Engineering in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is providing site engineering. Funding of $49.9 million approved Voters in the six towns approved $49.9 million in funding in March, choosing to build a new facility on a 120-acre site, rather than renovate the existing school in Exeter. Construction is expected to be completed in time for fall semester 2006. The 330,000-sq.-ft. school will have a traditional look that is compatible with the area. A design that offered flexibility and efficiency was important, according to Daniel W. Cecil, the architect who leads Harriman Associates educational design studio. "Classrooms will be in a two-story wing and will be linked to another wing that has a 1,000-seat auditorium and a 2,000-seat gymnasuium," added Cecil, who is also a partner in the firm. Long tradition of designs for schools Harriman Associates is a full-service architecture and engineering firm with offices in Auburn and Portland, Maine.
