5, 2001 St. Joseph's College selects Harriman Associates, Orcutt Associates to design new academic building Harriman Associates and Orcutt Associates have been selected to design a new academic building at St. Joseph's College in Standish, Maine. Harriman Associates will manage the project, with architects Gregory D. Ninow, managing principal at Harriman Associates, and John R. Orcutt, principal at Orcutt Associates, collaborating on the design of what is envisioned as a landmark building on campus. The building will reflect many of the elements of the master and strategic plan developed by the college in 1999 and will be located at the highest point on campus. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2003. The two firms each bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the project and have recently collaborated to design a new residence hall for the University of Southern Maine and renovations at the University of Maine's Memorial Union. Currently they are also working on a master plan for the Maine State Cultural Building. Harriman Associates is an 80-person firm with offices in Auburn and Portland, and has a 130-year legacy of providing both architecture and engineering services for education, government, health care, and commercial clients. The firm has designed numerous projects at colleges and universities, including Bates College, Bowdoin College, the University of Maine, the University of Southern Maine, and Saint Michael's College and is currently designing projects at four of Maine's technical colleges. Among other recent and current projects are the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, Maine Medical Center Scarborough Campus, and the Civil Engineering Building at the Maine Air National Guard in Bangor. Orcutt Associates is a planning and design firm of 16 employees located in the historic Sparhawk Mill in Yarmouth, and provides architecture, site design and planning, and interior design services to a wide range of institutional, municipal and commercial clients throughout the country. Founder John Orcutt was previously the principal in charge of the architectural practice at Sasaki Associates in Massachusetts, overseeing numerous projects at higher-education institutions such as Boston College, Brandeis University, Cornell University, Northeastern University, Holy Cross College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Bowdoin College, and Colby College. In the Portland area, Orcutt Associates provided a master plan for the University of Southern Maine's Portland campus and was also designer for the Portland Public Market. back to list |
