Design and bidding documents for this field house were completed in just
eight weeks instead of a normal five to six months, making it possible for
the university to meet the opening date it had targeted.
Silhouettes of sports figures, eight feet high, cut from steel, add an imaginative
touch to the pre-engineered building. A two-story addition connects it to
the existing gymnasium, creating a sports complex with one main entrance.
With a 24-ft.-wide, 150-ft.-long, skylight, the field house is drenched
with natural light. Besides a six-lane, 200-meter, NCAA-certified track,
the facility has four competition tennis courts and three basketball courts,
as well as runways for long jump and pole vault.
