A meticulous renovation created an elegant oceanfront
inn that is now the centerpiece of this college's culinary-arts and hotel-management
training programs.
The Victorian-era building had been unused for two decades and was in
ruins. To reclaim it, the interior had to be gutted and completely rebuilt,
exterior brick extensively repaired, and most of the roof structure replaced.
The original scale and character of the rooms were retained by cleverly
hiding modern heating, ventilating, and air conditioning components behind
walls and in casework. Custom light fixtures and casework in the Arts
and Crafts style adds a distinctive ambiance in the inn's lobby.
