Bowdoin College
Hawthorne-Longfellow Library
Brunswick, Maine

Recently completed renovations of the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library were the latest of a five-year project aimed at improving the library’s aesthetics, safety, comfort, and technology.

Required upgrades to the sprinkler system were combined with desired changes to the finishes, furniture, lighting and power throughout the library and administration areas.

Rooms for study and research were reconfigured to provide more functional spaces for faculty and students.

Clear glass was added to a second floor partition bringing new life into the central reading area, providing natural light and views of the exterior.

The Special Collections and Archives were moved into specially designed rooms which provide temperature and humidity control, enhanced security and increased storage capacity.

These much needed renovations updated and transformed the library into a more inviting center for academic and cultural activities.
