This new 9,500-sq.-ft., seven-bed hospice house will provide end-of-life palliative care for the community in and around Rockland.
To achieve the client’s goal of creating a facility that feels residential, serene, and simple, the design responds by breaking the mass of the facility into several distinct volumes, each identifiable by its roofline, and as a collection of forms reminiscent of a traditional New England farm.
The various pavilions are carefully arranged and connected to form private and sheltered courtyards and gardens in the heart of the building.
The circulation corridors are highly transparent in key areas to invite the serenity of the garden into the building at every opportunity.
