Maine Medical Center
Research Institute
Scarborough, Maine

58,500 sq. ft.

This new facility provides the space and specialized labs that a regional medical center needed to expand its molecular research program and continue to attract nationally recognized scientists.

The institute specializes in finding new treatments for heart disease, cancer, and bone and mineral disease.

The new building is designed to foster a dynamic, creative atmosphere. Labs are clustered in the center of the building, and offices, work stations, and conference rooms line the perimeter. The modular labs can be easily adapted to changing needs in space and program.

The open environment allows natural light from windows on the perimeter to be "shared" by those in the interior of the space.
