University of Maine
Hitchner Hall
Orono, Maine

This new wing and renovations to the existing building will add labs for molecular and cellular biology and provide space to consolidate food science and nutrition labs. With the improvements research programs can be expanded.

The labs are modular, easily adapted to changing needs. Office space within the modules adds convenience.

Electical and mechanical systems provide the strict controls needed for biotechnology research and a pilot plant for food processing.

A brick exterior and lead-coated copper trim on the addition are compatible with the existing building. Porches and contrasting masonry reduce the scale.
