Our work reflects the culture and environment we have operated in throughout our history. Since the 1850’s, Maine’s economy has been predominantly based on resource extraction from the sea and land. Maine is a rural state, geographically large in relation to its population. The environment includes a long coastline of unique beauty, large unincorporated forested areas, and mountainous regions filled with rivers and lakes. Maine has long winters and brief summers, the growing season is only four months long. This makes Maine a place where pragmatism and sustainability are sound strategies for long term survival.

Given this context, we attribute our long term success to finding better ways to enhance performance, increase work efficiency, and impact our client’s bottom line through thoughtful designs. We respond to extreme climate conditions with budgets that are often constrained. Our designs reflect a culture that values honesty, lack of pretense and restraint.

Above all, our work seeks to find beauty and wisdom in everyday things. This focuses our attention on the context of place and content driven solutions. For each problem, we balance art and science to create long term value for our clients.
